We've made all the right moves to win GOLD

Karl Tatler Estate Agents beat off stiff competition to win Gold at the national Estate Agency of the Year awards yet again.


One of the UK’s most consistently awarded agents, Karl Tatler was competing against 5,000 offices at the awards ceremony in London. The company won Gold for Best Small Northern Estate Agency of the Year – their ninth consecutive year of winning at these prestigious awards. 

Managing director Karl Tatler said: "It is fantastic reward for all our loyal and hard-working teams. The guys work incredibly hard, day in, day out and we are delighted to come here and collect Gold for Best Small Northern Estate Agency of the Year. Well done to all the team, they really deserve this and the award highlights just how much we strive to progress every year."

The event on the 5th December 2014 was the culmination of a rigorous and thorough judging process. A panel of 19 industry experts assessed written submissions before conducting an extensive review of the entrants, which included over 150 hours of telephone interviews and mystery shopping exercises.

Karl added: “2014 has been another successful year with our sales increasing by almost 40% for the third consecutive year, we are also averaging 97% of the asking price – meaning more of our vendors have been able to move home and at a better price. Achieving success for our clients is our ultimate goal – winning awards is a bonus.”

As entrants in the Northern category, Karl Tatler was competing with agents from the East coast of England right up to the Scottish boarder. Now in its twelfth year, these awards have become widely recognised as the most prestigious and difficult to win, with this year welcoming more entrants than ever before.

The judges explained why Karl Tater Estate Agents won: "The judges remain impressed by the attention to detail and focus on improvement demonstrated by this agency. Karl Tatler and his team have a remarkable empathy and connection with all their clients. In the first nine months of this year, the majority of instructions were via referrals or repeat business. They are renowned for their innovative and proactive approach and customers therefore have extremely high expectations of the service they will receive."

The whole of the judging process was overseen by The Property Ombudsman, Christopher Hamer, and Mark Hayward, managing director of the NAEA acted as arbiter. On the night of the event, winners were presented with their awards by Michelle Mone OBE, one of the UK's most successful female entrepreneurs and founder of international lingerie brand, Ultimo. Renowned journalist, author and newsreader Penny Smith was the event compere.

This caps off a wonderful year with Karl Tatler Lettings claiming three gongs at the 2014 Lettings Agency of the Year awards earlier in the year.

Stamp Duty changes gives boost to 98% of homebuyers

You will be aware by now that the stamp duty rate has changed, allowing for a lower rate for some 98% of home buyers. This is fantastic news for the vast majority of those wanting to buy a property. Karl Tatler, Managing Director of Karl Tatler Estate Agents, explains a bit more about the stamp duty change and what this could mean for you...

"The Chancellor's change in Stamp Duty rates this week is one of the most positive changes in the housing market for quite some time. We have said for a long time that the previous way of calculating stamp duty was very unfair and created extremely difficult price zones to sell in just about every price threshold."

"The new scale of charges has removed these zones and has ensured that just about every sale below £925,000 will attract less stamp duty, however the most significant cost reduction is at the lower end of the price range."

"For example, a buyer purchasing a house at £130,000 would have been required to pay £1,300 in stamp duty before the change, now you will only need to pay £100. This significant change should help first time buyers to enter the market."

"A property selling at £260,000 would have attracted a stamp duty charge of £7,800, the new charge is £3,000."

"We have already seen an immediate change in people's behaviour. We have seen an increase in first time as well as second time buyers registering with us this week, many of which explaining that it was simply the stamp duty change that has now given them the confidence to enter the market. Based on the value of our stock, a massive 90% of our Wirral properties will benefit from the stamp duty change."
