Brookdale Primary School in Greasby has launched the kIDpack safety initiative for over 300 pupils, following sponsorship of the scheme by local estate agents Karl Tatler.
Specifically tailored for the UK, the kIDpacks are based on similar packs which have been widely used in the USA for several years, particularly by the FBI in successfully recovering abducted or missing children.
Completed by parents, the kIDpacks document a child’s vital information for police to use in the event of an emergency if a child went missing.
Acting Headteacher of Brookdale Primary School, Gill Knapton, said: “Promoting safety awareness with pupils is incredibly important to us as educators, as is being able to provide parents with any additional support or advice. The kIDpacks are an excellent resource that can safeguard children and aid parents in further conversations at home about personal safety and what to do if their child gets lost. We are very grateful to Karl Tatler Estate Agents for their generous sponsorship of the scheme and helping to make it happen.”
The kIDpacks include forms to document a child’s medical and personal information, including allergies and medications, blood type, height, weight, hair/eye colour, birth date and a chart to denote any unique physical features. Additionally, each pack contains a 10-finger fingerprint chart with a safe, non-toxic ink strip, two shoe stickers for useful contact telephone numbers, a page of comprehensive safety tips, and a plastic A6 pouch to store the completed forms safely.
Branch manager of Karl Tatler Estate Agents Greasby office, Sue Dermott, said: “On hearing the aims of the kIDpacks initiative and how it can protect children, we were delighted to sponsor the packs and make it possible for Brookdale Primary School to distribute them at no cost to the school. Not only are the packs an invaluable resource, they also include safety tips that help parents to share important information and safety tips with their children in an informed way.”
Brookdale Primary School have distributed 300 kIDpacks to all of their enrolled children, as well as to the children of their staff members. The packs will also be provided to the siblings of enrolled children, as well as to any child that enrols at Brookdale Primary School over the next year.
Emily Summers, executive director for Child Safety Awareness who produce the packs, said: “The kIDpacks are designed to help give peace of mind that should anything happen to your child, you will be prepared to respond effectively by having all their vital information at hand. We encourage families to regularly speak with their children about personal safety in a way that they can understand, without overwhelming them or using a fear-based approach.”
