Housing Market Exempt from latest National Lockdown

These are strange times we find ourselves in and the National Lockdown announced by Boris Johnson on Saturday evening which will commence on Thursday 5th November and last until at least Tuesday 2nd December is the latest chapter in The Governments efforts to try to overcome Covid-19. The Government has acknowledged that the housing market is not only a significant driver of the economy but also a significant moment in peoples lives and as such have decided to make ‘moving home’ exempt from the lockdown. You may not know this but for most people who move home, it is due to circumstances beyond their control; only around a third of property sales are a lifestyle choice. Two thirds of sales are as a result of ‘life changing’ circumstances such as financial, new job, lost job, divorce, birth, going  into care, death….the list goes on.

 

We are delighted that the Housing Minister acknowledged this and announced on Saturday night that the Government are allowing the housing market to continue to operate during the lockdown period. They recognise that estate agents have already adapted their offices and working practices to ensure property valuations, surveys and viewings can be conducted in a Covid Safe way. The have also recognised that not being able to move home for the majority of the market really isn’t an option for many of those trying to move home right now.

 

If you currently have a property on the market you’ll be delighted to know that prospective buyers will still be able to view. If you were in the process of thinking about coming into the market as a buyer or a seller, landlord or tenant, then we wanted to let you know that you are still able to do so. If you currently have a sale progressing the surveyors will still be able to attend, solicitors are still working, as are the removal companies. Although everyone needs to adapt how they operate to keep safe, you are still able to complete your purchase and move home.

Our marketing material has been expertly produced to provide as realistic overview of our properties with a view to helping you avoid making unnecessary appointments and minimising the number of viewings and therefore contacts you need to have. If you are viewing one of our properties please note only two people from the same household can view the property and please avoid bringing children if at all possible. Please can we emphasise that wearing masks for the duration of your viewing is mandatory.
